Frontiers of Justice

CRS Education

In partnership with the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) Secondary Schools department, CRS offers an experience of global solidarity for a small group of Catholic high school teachers each summer. Through prayer and reflection on Catholic social teaching, the group connects with CRS overseas work in education, health, agriculture, community banking, and peacebuilding by visiting development projects, meeting with community leaders, and discerning how they can enhance their educational ministry.

Gain for Participants of Frontiers of Justice:

Participants in Frontiers of Justice will gain first-hand knowledge of a developing country and will work together to develop strategies to bring the lessons learned back to their students in the United States. As a result of the trip, participants are asked to serve as advisors to Catholic Relief Services in developing programs that promote global solidarity on a broad scale.

How Does Your Support of this Program Make a Difference?

Participation in Frontiers of Justice raises awareness about issues of life in the developing world through an opportunity of personal witness. By being witnesses to the work of the Church overseas and by sharing stories of the people they meet, participants can motivate others to answer the call of the U.S. Bishops to global solidarity. In addition, by assisting CRS in developing its education programs and outreach programs, participants can affect change in settings beyond their own community, across the country and around the world.

Who Can Participate?

Frontiers of Justice is for Catholic secondary school teachers and administrators. Religion teachers and campus ministers are encouraged to apply, as are teachers from other disciplines including social studies, foreign language, etc.

2006 Frontiers of Justice

The Frontiers of Justice program sponsored a trip to Kosovo which began on July 2, 2006. Participants visited CRS programs in education, counter-trafficking, cross-border cooperation and peacebuilding. They were guests in the homes of Kosovo teachers with whom they planned projects to connect their students in the coming school year. This was an exciting time in Kosovo's history as the international community made a final determinination whether Kosovo would obtain independence or to remain as a province of Serbia.

First-hand reflections and stories of solidarity were recorded in the 2006 Frontiers of Justice Travelogue.
