Living in Solidarity
"Solidarity is the conviction that we are born into a fabric of relationships, that our humanity ties us to others, that the Gospel consecrates those ties and that the prophets tell us that those ties are the test by which our very holiness will be judged. " Rev. J. Bryan Hehir
These featured resources and opportunities aim to help you and the young people you serve respond to the Gospel call to live as one human family and, in particular, to live in solidarity with the poor around the world. More than just simple educational lesson plans, these resources are broader in scope and encourage a deeper awareness about realities around the world and a greater commitment to relationships that foster solidarity.
Global Solidarity Week
Developed out of the shared experience of six Catholic high school educators who traveled to India in July 2004 as part of the Frontiers of Justice program, this downloadable resource provides a model for designing and facilitating a Global Solidarity Week at your middle or high school. These materials are designed to be flexible, easily adaptable for assemblies, one-day or week-long schedules, school or parish religious education programs. The resource includes information on the Church's teaching about Global Solidarity, and activities, discussions and reflections suitable for a classroom or a larger community gathering. Additional options to create a meaning Lenten journey at your school are also included.
Travel With CRS
CRS offers educators and youth ministers a chance to participate in an overseas experience that raises awareness about issues of life in the developing world through personal witness. By being witnesses to the work of the Church overseas and by sharing stories of the people they meet, participants can motivate others to answer the Gospel call to global solidarity. In addition, by assisting CRS in developing its education programs and outreach programs, participants can affect change in settings beyond their own community, all across the country.
