Encounter Migration

As Catholics, we recognize that prayer guides our actions, it binds us in solidarity to one another, and connects us more deeply with the grace that flows from God.

"A change of attitude towards migrants and refugees is needed on the part of everyone, moving away from attitudes of defensiveness and fear, indifference and marginalization – all typical of a throwaway culture – towards attitudes based on a culture of encounter, the only culture capable of building a better, more just and fraternal world." - Pope Francis, Message for the World Day of Migrants and Refugees (2014)

In 2013, the number of international migrants worldwide reached 232 million, up from 175 million in 2000 and 154 million in 1990. (United Nations Department of Economic Affairs, 2015)

Every country in the world is affected by trafficking, with an estimated 20 million individuals globally living in slavery today. (The United Nation's International Labor Organization's 2012 Estimate on Forced Labor)
